    Simone Biles certainly looks ready for Paris with more than two months to go before the Olympic games begin. The gymnastics superstar began her bid for a third Olympic team looking as dominant as ever at the U.S. Classic. The 27-year-old Biles posted an all-around score of 59.500, nearly two points clear of runner-up Shilese Jones. Gabby Douglas, the 2012 Olympic champion, saw her hopes for a career comeback at 28 take a hit. Douglas fell twice on uneven bars in her first event and pulled out of the final three rotations.

      Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are tied for the lead at the PGA Championship going into the final round and they have a lot of company. Low scoring at Valhalla allows for that. Shane Lowry had the second 62 this week. That ties a major championship record. 

        Oleksandr Usyk has defeated Tyson Fury by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight boxing champion in 24 years. Usyk added Fury's WBC title to his own WBA, IBF and IBO belts with a spectacular late rally highlighted by a ninth-round knockdown in a back-and-forth bout between two previously unbeaten heavyweight champs.

The catalysts are three lawsuits against the NCAA and power conferences that are expected to be settled, with the NCAA owing $2.8 billion in damages, according to reporting by Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.         Caitlin Clark is adjusting to life as a professional women's basketball player on and off the court. Her first week in the league, when she played against two of the top three teams in the WNBA last season, had moments where she looked very good and others when she struggled. 

        Max Verstappen held off a challenge from McLaren's Lando Norris to win the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and extend his Formula 1 championship lead. Verstappen started on pole position and stayed ahead of Norris at the start but was put under pressure by the McLaren driver again near the end. It was the defending champion's fifth win in seven Grand Prix races this year and followed Verstappen being beaten by Norris in Miami two weeks ago. Norris placed second and Charles Leclerc was third for Ferrari.
